![]() ![]() Nier’s daughter, she is afflicted with the black scrawl virus. He is a grateful and loving member of his small village, and takes on any small tasks from town members for pay to help fund his daughter’s recovery. His resolve in fighting for his daughter is astounding, yet the strong, manly demeanor required of his tasks does not take away from his humanity. I’ll post a Youtube clip at the jump.įather of Yonah, he searches for a cure for the black scrawl virus that afflicts his daughter. The game I feel was “survived” by this soundtrack. The results are beautiful and add tremendously to the emotional feel of the game. The female artist behind the vocals of the soundtrack created a synthetic, but made up language comprised of several different languages, including Japanese, Welsh, German, etc. The seemingly orchestrated soundtrack is greatly augmented by the female vocals. What held the game together was the excellent character development backed by INCREDIBLE voice acting and an MAGNIFICENT soundtrack score that accompanied not only each gripping cut scene, but normal events such as traversing the world map. With this class as a reinforcing guideline to good or bad game design, I felt that Nier did several areas really well, but fell short in many other areas as well. The game is a sleeper hit that did not do well with critics but has become a fan favorite among true RPG enthusiasts. The game is an overall enjoyable one, albeit short. Published by Square Enix as game studio Cavia’s final production before being disbanded, Nier is an action RPG game. Nier fights for his life against a variety of monstrous beings known as Shades, as he seeks the cure for his ailing daughter. They live in a world that formerly flourished with technological marvels, but was sent back to medieval times by a catastrophic world event centuries ago. The overall story involves Nier, whose daughter Yonah is afflicted with the black scrawl disease, which has known to kill all its victims over an indeterminate period of time. Nier Gestalt was released in America as Nier producers felt an older male character Nier who is father to Yonah would resonate better with Western audiences and indeed this was the case. Nier Replicant was favored Japanese version that featured main character Nier as a young man who is brother to Yonah. The only different between these two is the age and appearnce of the main protagonist and the relation to the character of Yonah. Nier was released in Japan as two different games: Nier Gestalt and Nier Replicant.
