He began covering prep basketball in the 1991-92 season and was hired full time by the Herald in November 1997 when the paper expanded into the Tri-Cities. He started freelancing for the Herald in the summer of 1990 and started freelancing prep sports in DuPage County in the fall of 1991. Later in life he married for the last time to the love of his life and they enjoyed 19 years together where they traveled extensively and retired in AZ. He loved a good prime rib and could make a mean batch of brownies. He loved the Lakers and Dodgers and could make any referee a little nervous. Attending musicals and plays were a favorite of his while watching movies at home a close second. His many hobbies included carpentry, computers and crossword puzzles. He loved to fly his two daughters to Utah for annual family reunions. While hard at work he also became a licensed pilot. His dedication and hard work led to his ownership of Pipeline Contractors where he ran a successful business in Las Vegas for many years. He married soon after and moved to California where he worked in finance. Lynn graduated from Springville High School in 1960 where he was a scholar athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. Robert Lynn Hales (81) passed away peacefully on Main Surprise AZ.
